COVID-19 PIVOT (COVOT)

The automotive industry will take a big hit from the coronavirus pandemic, and as cities and countries go into lockdown, personal transport will become less important. We will also see a massive decline in factory capacity to keep up with the manufacturing schedules. Globalised access to parts will also be a problem, as many car manufacturers rely on factories in Chinese regions, including the heavily impacted Wuhan region.

Possible COVOTS

  • Use existing manufacturing facilities to create protective and safety equipment
Example of a COVOT

Geely provides online car sales with home delivery and drone delivery

Geely Auto launched an online purchase program complete with home deliveries. Not only does the company run the vehicle through a full disinfection regimen, it now offers drone delivery, eliminating one potential face-to-face transaction.

Ford to speed production of respirators for healthcare workers

Ford will assemble more than 100,000 critically needed plastic face shields per week at a Ford manufacturing site to help medical professionals, factory workers and store clerks.
